HEY! This is just for kicks but I wanted to know your opinions on what was in Marsellus Wallace's briefcase in Pulp Fiction. I have no idea what it is, only that it glows and people stare at it with awe. What do you think it is?

Lots and lots of toffee wrappers. Marsellus Wallace likes toffees. Its true. That's why he threw that guy out a window, it wasn't anything to do with feet. It was about toffees. Never mess with a dude's pick'n'mix.

Hey this is what i've heard:

The briefcase contains his soul, which had been removed from him (notice the plaster on the back of his neck) beacuse he is mates with the devil (notice the combination lock of the case is 666).

This is just a theory, but thats what i've been told.
Oh yeah, he really likes toffees too.

Whatever was in the briefcase is a "MacGuffin" - a phrase invented by Hitchcock for a device which will carry the action. A McGuffin is the thing that the hero is chasing - the secret documents / formula, secret message etc. We never really find out what this really is, as we are never told specifically that they are, just "secret documents" or in Pulp Fiction's case : something of value.

Whatever it is, it is not vital to the story, just the motivation for the ensuing violence.

The plaster had nothing to do with the story- it was just to cover up an unsightly scar on Ving Rhames' neck, that's all. Interesting idea, though.

Ever seen 'Repoman' by Alex Cox? Similar(ish) sort of idea, only this time the 'THING' is in the boot of a car. Open the boot, lots of light and all that remains of you is a pair of smoking boots.
